Senator Ali Ndume has been appointed the new chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism, shortly after being ousted as Senate Chief Whip and losing his vice chairmanship on the Appropriation Committee.

The announcement was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a minor reshuffle of Senate standing committees. Other notable changes include Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire taking over as chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters, replacing Senator Mohammed Mongono, who has been appointed the new Chief Whip and vice chairman of the Appropriation Committee. Senator Ned Nwoko will chair the new Committee on Reparation and Repatriation.

Despite calls for sanctions against Ndume over his controversial remarks about lawmakers, Senate President Akpabio dismissed the motion. Ndume’s removal as Chief Whip was prompted by accusations from the APC National Headquarters of making unguarded statements against President Bola Tinubu.
