Veteran Nollywood actor Chidi Mokeme has voiced his support for Nigerian youths planning an August protest, emphasizing that it is a fundamental right of citizens.

Mokeme pointed out that President Bola Tinubu himself has previously protested against other governments, highlighting the importance of upholding citizens’ rights to express their concerns about economic hardships. On his social media platform, Mokeme urged security agencies to safeguard lives and property during the protest, ensuring it doesn’t fall into the hands of troublemakers. He stressed, “Protests are a constitutionally guaranteed right. The police must protect both protesters and the public, identifying and prosecuting any who seek to incite violence.”

Additionally, Mokeme criticized some government spokespersons for making inflammatory statements, warning that such rhetoric only worsens the situation. “This is like giving the dog a bad name so you can hang it. The government should be proactive and avoid rash decisions,” he remarked, calling for responsible communication from officials.
