South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC) has expelled former President Jacob Zuma, citing his violation of party rules.

According to a leaked report from the ANC’s disciplinary committee, “The charged member is expelled from the ANC. The charged member has the right to appeal…” The expulsion comes after Zuma campaigned for and led his new uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party against the ANC.

The hearing, conducted virtually, featured ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula as a key witness. Of the seven members on the party’s National Executive Committee, five voted in favor of Zuma’s expulsion.
