In a tragic incident that occurred on Monday evening, gunmen killed four policemen and a Point of Sale (PoS) operator on Onitsha Road in Owerri, Imo State.

The assailants opened fire as the officers, who were attached to the Ogbaku Police Division, were pursuing them in the area near AA Rano and Gbobal fuel stations. An eyewitness reported, “The gunmen engaged the policemen in a shootout, resulting in the deaths of four officers and a PoS operator, who were left in a pool of their own blood.”

Imo State Police spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed the casualties, stating, “For now, four police officers have been confirmed dead. Investigation is ongoing to unravel the miscreants responsible for this senseless attack.”

Authorities are currently working to apprehend the perpetrators, who fled the scene following the confrontation. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning, as efforts continue to bring the attackers to justice.
