Amid the escalating #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, youths in Kano State marched on August 1, waving Russian flags and appealing for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s intervention.

“The unusual display of Russian flags highlights the protesters’ frustration with the home government’s handling of the economic crisis.” Despite government efforts to stifle the protests, including issuing subtle threats, a significant number of demonstrators continue to defy these measures. “The determination and resolve of the Nigerian people are evident in their large turnout,” noted an anonymous protester.

Nigeria faces a severe economic challenge with a 40.87% food inflation rate and persistent general inflation, fueling widespread discontent with President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Government policy initiatives have so far failed to alleviate the hardships, further intensifying public dissatisfaction.
