The Nationwide Hunger Protests, which have gripped the nation from August 1st to 10th, have been temporarily suspended but are expected to continue on October 1st.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the protests, driven by the #EndbadgovernanceinNigeria movement, were initiated in response to the rising cost of living across the country. In a recent interview with News Central TV, Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the Action Alliance Congress (AAC) and one of the primary organizers, confirmed the suspension. Sowore explained that the organizers are currently in discussions, planning the next phase of their actions. “This protest will resume at the beginning of October and might even start earlier depending on situational variables,” Sowore stated.
The protesters are demanding several key changes, including the reinstatement of fuel subsidies, an increase in the minimum wage to N250,000, the release of Nnamdi Kanu, and the adoption of a new constitution. Despite appeals from President Bola Tinubu to call off the demonstrations, the organizers have remained resolute, describing his speech as unconvincing.
