The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has issued an urgent plea for international aid to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

Mohamed Refaat, the head of IOM’s Sudan mission, warned, “The international community is not doing enough. Without an immediate massive and coordinated global response, we risk witnessing tens of thousands of preventable deaths in the coming months.” Since the outbreak of conflict in April 2023, millions have been displaced, with the IOM reporting that 10.7 million people are now internally displaced, and another 2.3 million have fled to neighboring countries.

The organization has only received 21% of the necessary resources to provide critical assistance, leaving many vulnerable to hunger, disease, and floods. Refaat emphasized that swift and substantial international support is crucial to prevent this impending tragedy.
