Peter Obi, the former Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has criticized President Bola Tinubu following the seizure of Nigeria’s presidential jets by a Chinese company. He called the incident a national embarrassment, highlighting Nigeria’s leadership failures and disregard for the rule of law.

The jets were reportedly seized after the Ogun State Government failed to pay a $74.5 million award to Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Limited. The Presidency acknowledged the incident, accusing the Chinese firm of attempting to take over Nigeria’s offshore assets through deceit.

Obi condemned the Federal Government’s decision to proceed with the jet purchase despite the country’s economic struggles, calling for transparency and accountability.
