The military juntas of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger have addressed a letter to the United Nations Security Council, accusing Ukraine of supporting rebel groups in the Sahel region.

This move follows a statement by Andriy Yusov, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s military intelligence, which the West African nations interpreted as an admission of Ukraine’s involvement in recent conflicts. The juntas have urged the UN to address Ukraine’s alleged actions, claiming they threaten regional stability. The letter has been shared on Mali’s foreign ministry’s social media, and diplomats confirmed its circulation to the 15-member Security Council on Tuesday.

In the letter, the foreign ministers of these countries demanded that the UN take responsibility for Ukraine’s actions and prevent any “subversive acts” that could destabilize the region. However, Ukraine has dismissed the allegations as baseless. A Tuareg rebel alliance, active in Mali’s northern Kidal region, also denied receiving any support from Ukraine, while ongoing fighting between Russia and Ukraine continues to escalate.
