The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has announced that Morocco will no longer host the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The decision was made due to the logistical challenges of hosting both the WAFCON and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the same year, which the FRMF stated would “put a significant strain on the country’s resources and infrastructure.” In response, the South African Football Association (SAFA) has stepped forward to express interest in hosting the tournament.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, who had earlier praised the “enormous growth of Women’s Football in Africa,” expressed optimism for a successful tournament, adding, “I am also impressed by the enormous growth of Women’s Football in Africa and I am expecting the CAF TotalEnergies WAFCON Morocco 2024 to be immensely successful.” Morocco had previously hosted the WAFCON in 2022, further highlighting the nation’s commitment to advancing women’s football on the continent.
