Victor Osimhen, Napoli’s star striker, has been excluded from the Serie A club’s squad list, with his iconic number 9 jersey handed to new signing Romelu Lukaku. This decision comes after a summer filled with transfer rumors and a reported rift with the club’s hierarchy.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano noted, “Osimhen’s situation is puzzling, especially given his pivotal role in securing Napoli’s first Scudetto in four decades.” Despite interest from Al-Hilal and Chelsea, Osimhen remains at Napoli, raising concerns about his future under new manager Antonio Conte, who reportedly “has no place for Osimhen in his plans.”

Conte’s preference for Lukaku, whom he successfully managed at Inter Milan, appears to be a key factor in Osimhen’s sidelining. With speculations that Osimhen may be benched until the January transfer window, this situation contrasts sharply with his recent accolades, including being named African Footballer of the Year. Despite the fallout, Osimhen extended his contract with Napoli until 2026, though tensions with the club have been evident.
