The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has called off its seven-day nationwide warning strike and instructed its members to return to work today, Monday, September 2, 2024.

The strike was in response to the abduction of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, an ophthalmology registrar, who has been in captivity since December 27, 2023, along with her nephew. Despite the Federal Government’s threat to enforce a ‘no work, no pay’ policy, the doctors remained resolute.

NARD President, Dr. Dele Abdullahi, explained, “We are suspending the strike now. We will be meeting to review the progress the government has made in the next three weeks.” He added that while the government’s engagement has improved, they are “hopeful that they will sustain this current line of action.”
