Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine was shot in the leg during a confrontation with police near Kampala, according to his party, the National Unity Platform. The incident occurred in Bulindo, Wakiso District, where video footage showed Wine being helped into a car by his supporters with a bleeding wound below his left knee.

It remains unclear whether he was struck by a bullet or a tear gas canister. Wine is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. The police claimed that Wine defied advice against holding a street procession, which led to the altercation. They have announced an investigation into the incident.

Wine’s party condemned the attack as an attempt on his life, emphasizing the challenges he has faced, including harassment and physical assaults, since entering politics. President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, continues to resist calls for retirement, and Uganda has never seen a peaceful transfer of power since its independence in 1962.
