As I write this editorial, many Africans are not aware that there is a war going on in Cameroon where the Anglophone region declared an independent state called Ambazonia in 2016.

Ambazonia is the Southern Cameroons which was administered with Nigeria by the British as a League of Nations Mandate. In 1961, they voted to join the other part of Cameroon administered by France.

The conflict arising over Ambazonia declaration of statehood has killed over 2000 and a war is ongoing.

Oftentimes, I ask Africans “Why do you go to war over what Europeans created to control us?” Why do we kill ourselves to honour the colonial master? Southern Cameroon is rich in mineral resources, but benefits less from it while President Paul Biya from the French speaking region has been in power since November 6,1982.

Africans must begin to look inward in resolving conflicts as powers that divided it at the Berlin conference know why nations were lumped together as a country. In Europe, Germans, English and Polish cannot agree to live peacefully as a country, ours can never be different. Africans must see reasons with the people of Amba land.
