City of Hope Hospital in Los Angeles has developed a groundbreaking cancer drug, AOH1996, which kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. Targeting the mutated protein PCNA, essential for tumor growth, AOH1996 has shown success against 70 different cancer cell lines, including breast, prostate, and lung cancers.

Now in Phase 1 trials, the drug offers new hope for personalized treatments. Dr. Linda Malkas described it as “a snowstorm that shuts down flights in and out of an airport hub, but only for planes carrying cancer cells,” while co-author Dr. Long Gu highlighted its ability to target previously ‘undruggable’ proteins.
