In a statement issued on September 16, 2024, Dangote Group rejected the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited’s claim that it purchased petrol from the Dangote Refinery at N898 per litre, calling the statement “misleading and mischievous.”

According to the NNPC, it bought fuel at the stated price during its initial loading of about 300 trucks from the refinery. However, Dangote Group’s Chief Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, emphasized that this claim undermined the progress made by the refinery in addressing Nigeria’s energy challenges. He urged Nigerians to await a formal price announcement set for October 1, 2024.

Chiejina clarified, “Our current stock of crude was procured in dollars, and the products sold to NNPCL offered substantial savings compared to their imported fuels.” The statement also assured Nigerians that the refinery’s efforts would help alleviate the nation’s long-standing fuel scarcity issues.
