Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the Edo State governorship election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced his victory at the collation center in Benin City, with Okpebholo securing 291,667 votes.

He defeated his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes. Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata finished third with 22,763 votes. This closely contested election has sparked reactions, with Governor Obaseki losing his local government area to the APC. Political observers highlight the significance of this win for Okpebholo and the APC in the state.
