President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria is set to depart for a two-week vacation in the United Kingdom on Wednesday, as confirmed by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga. This break is part of his annual leave and will include a “working vacation” where Tinubu intends to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms amid the country’s severe economic crisis.

While Tinubu is away, it remains uncertain whether Vice President Kashim Shettima will assume control. This announcement follows recent low-key protests across Nigeria against the rising cost of living, which coincided with the country’s 64th independence anniversary. Protesters are urging the government to address economic challenges and hunger, with Tinubu previously promising to tackle the cost of living in a national address.
