Supporters of Nyesom Wike, former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, held a significant protest in Port Harcourt on Saturday. They demanded that the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) adhere to a recent High Court ruling regarding local government elections.

The demonstration was fueled by allegations of irregularities in the electoral process. Protesters, brandishing placards with slogans such as “Obey Court Order” and “No Justice, No Election,” expressed their discontent over the RSIEC’s decision to continue with the elections despite a court ruling that had suspended them due to procedural flaws.

The High Court’s judgment called for a halt to the elections, a directive that Wike’s supporters insisted must be respected. Their protests reflect broader concerns about electoral integrity in the state.
