Tragedy was recorded as Investigative Police Officer ASP Babatunde Ashifat testified in the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court about the alleged rape and subsequent death of a 78-year-old woman by Jelili Lawal in Lagos State. Ashifat was assigned the case on January 2, 2019. He stated that two witnesses saw Lawal raping the elderly woman at Maryland Bus Stop, Lagos, after she asked him for help finding her residence. Lawal assaulted and raped her in an uncompleted building, leading to her excessive bleeding and ultimately her death. The witness reported that the victim was discovered by two women who called the police on patrol. The victim received medical attention at Mirabel Medical Centre, where it was confirmed that she had been forcefully penetrated. The case has been adjourned until October 27 for further proceedings.
