The Israeli Security Cabinet has announced that it will return Gazans working in Israel back to the besieged Palestinian enclave and sever contact with Gaza. This decision comes after Hamas’ October 7 terror attacks on Israel, which led to a war in Gaza. Prior to the conflict, around 18,000 Gazans had permits to work in Israel, where they could earn significantly more than in Gaza. The details about how and when these workers will be returned to Gaza have not been provided. Additionally, Israel plans to deduct funds designated for Gaza, including funding from the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, which would have gone to Gaza. The issuance of work permits for Gazans in Israel had been part of an economic incentive strategy to encourage them to distance themselves from Hamas
