In a historic electoral upset, Liberia’s incumbent President, George Weah, conceded defeat to Joseph Boakai, the former vice president and opposition candidate.

Boakai clinched victory in the presidential election’s second round, securing a commanding lead with 814,212 votes against Weah’s 785,778 votes. Weah, a former football star who rose to power in 2018, gracefully accepted his loss and urged his supporters to follow suit, emphasizing unity and patriotism over personal interests. Boakai’s win marks a significant shift in Liberian politics, signaling a call for national unity and healing after a competitive campaign period.
