Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, expressed his commendation for the Catholic Church’s initiative in establishing Lux Mundi University, the first university in Umuahia, Abia State.

The institution, named after the Italian phrase meaning ‘Light of the World,’ has received federal approval and is affiliated with Apollos University in Florida, USA. Otti praised Prof. Gabriel O. C. Okenwa, the university’s Founder and Pro-Chancellor, for envisioning this educational milestone in the state capital. He highlighted the university’s significance in filling the void of higher education in Umuahia and pledged support for its development.

The community, particularly the traditional ruler of AfaraukwuIbeku, Eze Edwin Ibeabuchi, lauded Prof. Okenwa’s foresight in bringing such a monumental development to Umuahia.

Lux Mundi University commenced its inaugural academic year with three faculties: Law, Management Sciences, and Arts & Social Sciences. The university’s leadership includes prominent figures such as Archbishop Lucious Ugorji, Prof. Augustine Uwakwe, Prof. Paul Eidson, among others.

Uwakwe highlighted the university’s attractiveness for prospective students due to its accessible location, affordable fees, provision of new HP laptops, scholarships for early applicants, and the opportunity for students to conclude their degrees in the United States under the foreign affiliation arrangement after three years. The university’s motto, ‘Illuminating Humanity,’ encapsulates its mission.
