Residents of Sokoto took to the streets on Monday in a protest against the escalating cost of living in Nigeria.

Marching from the Tudun Wada area to the Government House, demonstrators brandished placards decrying the exorbitant prices of essential goods such as beans, maize, and fuel.

The removal of fuel subsidies last year exacerbated the nation’s economic woes, leading to rampant inflation and a plummeting currency value. With the Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress issuing a two-week ultimatum to the government, protesters demand immediate action to alleviate their suffering.

Addressing the press, protest leader Abdullahi Muhammad lamented the deteriorating situation, calling for price controls and stricter supervision of traders. Amidst cries for relief, citizens implore authorities and business owners to exhibit compassion and integrity in their dealings, as households struggle to cope with the soaring cost of living.
