Femi Falana, Chairman of the Alliance on Surviving Covid 19 and Beyond (ASCAB), has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reject the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) advice to increase fuel and electricity prices in Nigeria.

Falana cautioned against IMF’s anti-subsidy campaign, highlighting disparities in IMF’s treatment between Nigeria and other countries like the UK, US, and France. He emphasized the need for Nigeria to prioritize its citizens’ welfare over IMF directives, pointing out examples of ongoing subsidies in advanced capitalist economies.

Falana’s call comes amidst growing pressure from the IMF to remove subsidies and align prices with market values, a move he believes would further burden Nigerian consumers.
