Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II reclaimed the Kano Emir’s Palace early Saturday morning.

This followed his reappointment by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf after dissolving the five newly created emirates and restoring the pre-2019 Kano Emirate. Sanusi’s midnight palace entry aimed to preempt the return of deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, who was out of town when the changes were announced.

Bayero, who had been made Emir of Kano after Sanusi’s 2020 deposition, returned to Kano early Saturday to a supportive crowd but did not comment on the situation.
