Ahead of Biafra Heroes Day, declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to honor those who died in the Nigerian Civil War, extensive security measures have been enforced in Nigeria’s South-East.

Anambra State Police have ramped up their presence at schools, while the Enugu State government has rejected the sit-at-home directive, keeping security agencies on high alert to prevent unrest.

The IPOB’s call for a shutdown has led to significant public compliance, with residents rushing to make last-minute purchases and students relocating to avoid disruption. Institutions like WASSCE and Nnamdi Azikiwe University have been urged to reschedule events to avoid potential risks.
