On June 11, 2024, two police officers and a security operative were killed by unknown gunmen in Akabo village, Imo State.
This attack, confirmed by the Imo State Police Command, occurred around 6 AM. Just days before, the Nigerian Air Force had conducted airstrikes on illegal refining sites along the Imo River as part of Operation Delta Safe, following a meeting between the Chief of the Air Staff and the Governor of Abia State regarding a new Air Force base.
