The Coalition for Whistleblowers Protection and Press Freedom (CWPPF) has condemned the Nigerian police for the unlawful detention and assault of Gabriel Idibia, a Daily Times journalist, by Kaduna State police on June 11, 2024.
The coalition urged Inspector General Kayode Egbetokun to investigate and sanction the officers involved. Idibia was arrested, beaten, and denied access to legal support after photographing police-escorted cattle. CWPPF emphasized the incident’s violation of press freedom and human rights, calling for legal consequences and an end to police intimidation of journalists.
