Iran has scheduled a rerun of its presidential election for Friday, July 5, after the initial poll failed to produce a clear winner.

In the first round, held on June 28, none of the four candidates secured the required 51% of the vote. Masoud Pezeshkian led with 42.5%, followed by Saeed Jalili with 38.6%.

Both will compete in the rerun after Mostafa Pourmohammadi and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf withdrew due to poor performances. This election seeks to find a successor to President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash last month. Voter turnout was historically low at 40%.
