A tragic stampede during a religious gathering honoring Hindu deity Shiva in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district has claimed the lives of at least 87 people.

The incident occurred as attendees were exiting the event, prompting widespread mourning and renewed safety concerns. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences and assured comprehensive relief efforts. Authorities have launched a high-level investigation into the incident to determine the causes and prevent future tragedies.

Distressing scenes outside hospitals in Hathras and Etah highlighted the emotional toll, with medical personnel urgently attending to the injured. The local administration has vowed to improve event safety protocols and provide support to the affected families in this time of grief.
