Rishi Sunak has resigned as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom following the Labour Party’s landslide victory in the general election. Sunak met with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace to formally submit his resignation, which was accepted.

Sir Keir Starmer has been appointed as the new Prime Minister. Speaking from 10 Downing Street, Sunak expressed regret and took responsibility for the Conservative Party’s significant defeat. He acknowledged the public’s desire for change and congratulated Starmer on his victory. This election marks a historic shift, with the Conservatives losing more seats than in any previous election.

Sunak’s resignation speech emphasized his commitment to serving the country and his respect for the democratic process. He also apologized to the Conservative candidates and campaigners who worked tirelessly but were ultimately unsuccessful. Starmer, in his victory speech, promised to lead the UK towards a brighter future and address the pressing issues facing the nation.
