Deputy Speaker Hon. Benjamin Kalu announced that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is likely to be released soon.

Kalu, who has visited Kanu multiple times at the Department of State Security (DSS) facility, praised lawmakers for their appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release Kanu, invoking sections of the 1999 Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

Kalu emphasized that Kanu’s release is crucial for peace in the Southeast and noted significant progress in his private discussions with authorities on resolving Kanu’s case politically. He also expressed gratitude to the 50 lawmakers who supported the appeal, highlighting the unity and shared purpose behind their actions. Kalu assured that President Tinubu is committed to addressing the issue, motivated by his genuine concern for the region’s peace and development.
