The Democratic Republic of Congo announced a new government on Wednesday, ending a five-month impasse following President Felix Tshisekedi’s re-election.

The unveiling comes shortly after the army thwarted a coup attempt and amidst ongoing conflict in the eastern regions. Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita has been appointed as the new defence minister. The delay in forming the government was attributed to the need for extensive coalition negotiations.
