Dr. Francis Nkrumah, the eldest son of Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, has died at the age of 89. His death was announced by Indian author Vijay Prashad on June 30, 2024.

A dedicated pediatrician, Dr. Nkrumah was beloved by his patients and continued his medical and scientific work in Ghana after the coup that ousted his father. He recently contributed a foreword to a new edition of “The Revolutionary Thoughts of Kwame Nkrumah,” expressing the enduring significance of his father’s legacy for Africa. Dr. Nkrumah is survived by his siblings, Gamal, Samia, and Sekou Nkrumah.

His passing marks the end of an era for a family deeply intertwined with Ghana’s history and independence struggle. Dr. Nkrumah’s life and work were a testament to his commitment to his father’s vision for Ghana and Africa.
