Pope Francis named Pele as his favorite footballer during a commemorative event for World War II soldiers. When asked to choose between Messi and the late Maradona, he selected Pele, citing the late Brazilian’s humility as the reason behind his choice. Pope Francis added that all three, Pele, Messi, and Maradona, are great in their own ways, with Messi being very good at the moment. He also praised Pele as the greatest gentleman among the three, noting his big heart and humanity. Pope Francis expressed sympathy for Maradona’s troubled life and the challenges many sportsmen face.
