Ongoing tension grips Sierra Leone after an attempted coup as gunfire erupted at Cockrill Barracks on Sunday morning.

In response to the alarming situation in Freetown, the Sierra Leone Government has imposed a curfew until further notice. The government has assured citizens of their safety, asserting that state security forces have control of the situation. In a statement released on Sunday by Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor A. Bah, it was stated, ‘Security Update and Nationwide Curfew Announcement. According to the statement, ‘During the early hours of Sunday, November 26th, 2023, unidentified individuals attempted to breach the military armoury at Wilberforce barracks but were repelled. The public is guaranteed that both the government and our security forces are managing the situation.’In order to aid security forces in apprehending the suspects, a nationwide curfew is now in effect, urging citizens to remain indoors. For accurate updates, citizens are advised to follow official Ministry of Information and Civic Education channels and handles”.
