Israel has declared United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres persona non grata, following his perceived failure to strongly condemn Iran’s recent missile attack on Israel. Foreign Minister Israel Katz criticized Guterres, stating, “Anyone who cannot unequivocally condemn Iran’s heinous attack on Israel… does not deserve to set foot on Israeli soil.”

While Guterres did condemn the missile attack, he also called for a cease-fire in Gaza, which has contributed to tensions with Israel. This move reflects broader frustrations from Israel towards the UN, especially after the October 7 Hamas-led attack on the country. Following the Iranian assault, which Israel largely intercepted, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of retaliation, emphasizing, “whoever attacks us – we will attack.”
