Organized Labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), is set to begin a nationwide strike on Monday, June 3, over stalled negotiations on a new national minimum wage.

The decision follows the Federal Government’s marginal wage increase offer, which fell short of labour’s demands. Negotiations have been further complicated by state governors’ resistance to wage hikes, citing financial constraints.

The Federal Government has appealed for understanding, highlighting ongoing economic recovery efforts, but labour leaders warn that without a satisfactory resolution, industrial actions, including an economic shutdown, will commence next week.
