Catholic bishops in Malawi have issued a scathing critique of President Lazarus Chakwera’s administration, describing the country’s state as having worsened during his four years in office.
In a 16-page pastoral letter titled “The Sad Story of Malawi,” read out in Catholic churches nationwide, the bishops denounced the government for its alleged failures, including unfulfilled campaign promises, nepotism, and widespread corruption.
The pastoral letter, which represents a significant intervention by the Catholic Church in Malawi’s political landscape, has sparked debate and raised questions about the performance of President Chakwera’s administration.
