In a strong rebuke, NATO has identified China as a “decisive enabler” of Russia’s war in Ukraine, citing deep concerns over Beijing’s nuclear and space capabilities.

The final communique from the NATO summit in Washington highlights China’s material and political support to Russia, urging Beijing to cease aiding Moscow’s defense sector. China’s foreign ministry has dismissed NATO’s accusations, labeling them as “malicious” and a reflection of a “cold war mentality.” Additionally, NATO leaders emphasized that China’s actions have led to unprecedented solidarity between Euro-Atlantic and Asia-Pacific nations.

Meanwhile, Chinese troops have been conducting joint military drills with Belarus, raising further alarms among NATO members. The communique also accused China of engaging in sustained cyber and hybrid activities, including disinformation campaigns, and noted China’s rapid expansion of its nuclear arsenal.
