Rescuers in Nepal are searching for more than 60 people missing after a massive landslide swept two buses into the Narayani River in Chitwan.

The landslide, triggered by heavy monsoon rains, occurred early Friday morning. Only three people are confirmed to have survived. Survivors described their harrowing escape, with one recounting being thrown from the bus and swimming to safety.

The disaster highlights the ongoing peril of the monsoon season, which has caused widespread flooding and landslides across South Asia, affecting millions and resulting in numerous casualties. Nepal’s Prime Minister has called for a coordinated rescue effort, as many key highways remain blocked and bridges have been washed away. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant as rescue operations continue.
