In Anambra State, particularly in Onitsha, traders largely defied Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directive to reopen their shops on Monday. Most businesses in key markets, including Onitsha Main Market and Ochanja Market, remained closed despite warnings of potential closures for non-compliance.

While police patrols were visible to maintain order, many residents were out in the streets. Traders voiced their reluctance to resume operations. Festus Okoli, a vendor at the Main Market, noted, “There’s a difference from previous Mondays; at least, there is some traffic on the roads. But people are still afraid to open their shops.”

Another trader, selling wrappers, mentioned she was unaware of the governor’s order, indicating that it would take time for confidence to return. Governor Soludo toured various markets to assess compliance, urging business owners to gradually reopen while prioritizing safety and revitalizing economic activities.
