The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has formally notified the Federal Government of its intention to commence a nationwide strike, issuing a 21-day notice.

The decision was confirmed by members of the National Executive Council (NEC) after their meeting in Abuja on Monday. “It is not an ultimatum but a strike notice,” an ASUU source clarified, emphasizing that the notice aligns with labor law requirements. The notice follows ASUU’s ongoing dissatisfaction with the government’s failure to implement agreements, particularly the 2009 renegotiated agreements.

ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, stated that the unresolved issues include accumulated academic allowances and the revitalization fund, where the government committed to raising N200 billion yearly for five years.
