Veteran singer and activist Charles Oputa, known as Charly Boy, shocked fans by announcing on his X account that he no longer respects Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka.

This declaration came after President Bola Tinubu renamed the National Arts Theatre in Lagos in Soyinka’s honor for his 90th birthday. Charly Boy expressed his disillusionment, claiming that Soyinka had “fallen for beans,” and criticized the decision, leaving many wondering about the deeper reasons behind his strong reaction.

He referenced past criticisms of Soyinka, indicating a longstanding skepticism now brought to the fore. The unexpected outburst has sparked a heated debate among fans and followers of both prominent figures.
