The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reaffirmed that former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, remains wanted and is not in their custody, despite widespread reports claiming otherwise. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated that “the former governor is not in the holding facility of the EFCC,” dismissing claims that Bello had surrendered.

He stressed that Bello is still wanted in connection with a major N80.2 billion money laundering case, and a warrant for his arrest remains in effect. This clarification directly contradicts statements from Bello’s media office, which previously claimed that he had voluntarily responded to the EFCC’s invitation.

“Bello remains wanted with a subsisting warrant for his arrest,” the EFCC emphasized, urging the public to disregard misleading reports. The case has continued to garner attention, especially as the EFCC steps up efforts to apprehend Bello and resolve the high-profile case.
