Former Abia State Information Commissioner, John Kalu, rebuts Governor Alex Otti’s assertions concerning the new Government House in the state.

Kalu, who served during Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s tenure, criticized Otti’s actions as mere ‘media propaganda,’ defending a report by PREMIUM TIMES based on independent findings from October. He dismissed Otti’s claim that the previous administration handed over an incomplete Government House, alleging instead that Otti neglected its maintenance due to his aversion to anything associated with Ikpeazu. Kalu also found Otti’s allegations of funds misappropriation against Ikpeazu unsubstantiated, questioning Otti’s lack of action to validate the claims.

Kalu highlighted the irony in Otti’s preference for governing from his private residence to cut costs, juxtaposing it with the significant expenses revealed in the Abia State Third Quarter 2023 Budget Performance Report, indicating substantial spending on meals and honorarium/sitting allowances, totalling about ₦927 million within three months.
