The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) confirmed that its President, Joe Ajaero, was summoned by the police over allegations of terrorism financing and other serious charges.

NLC spokesperson Benson Upah revealed that a message to Ajaero stated, “We were at the Labour House to submit this (letter of invitation) but the place was locked, sir.” Upah added, “Clearly, the last has not been heard about the raid on the headquarters of the Nigeria Labour Congress.”

The NLC has warned, “Should anything happen to the leadership of the congress, the police should be held accountable,” and questioned, “Who wants Joe Ajaero out of circulation?” With tensions high, new protests are feared as the NLC rejects the police’s actions.
