The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has named his daughter, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki, as the Acting First Lady following the death of his wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno. On Friday, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, led a group of dignitaries, including the Vice President’s wife and other state governors’ spouses, to offer condolences to Governor Eno.

She praised the appointment, saying it reflects practices in the U.S. and honors the legacy of the late Patience Eno, stating, “Though short, she completed her race. May God comfort you.” Governor Eno described his late wife as his “greatest supporter and toughest critic,” and expressed confidence in his daughter’s ability to uphold her mother’s work.

He remarked, “It is not an easy task ahead. But to maintain the Office of the First Lady and carry forward my late wife’s work, I present our daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the office.”
