Justice Binta Nyako stepped down from the Federal Government’s treason case against Nnamdi Kanu after his bold statement: “I will not subject myself to this court.” The courtroom was tense as Kanu’s legal team demanded a delay, citing jurisdictional appeals.

Despite efforts by government lawyers to push forward, Kanu insisted his rights were being violated, particularly his right to proper legal representation. Justice Nyako, caught off guard by his defiance, announced her withdrawal, stating that she could not continue with the trial if the defendant had no confidence in her.

Her recusal now means the case will be reassigned, and the trial—already ongoing since 2015—will be further delayed. This latest development raises more questions about the future of the high-profile trial and the legal battles surrounding Kanu and the IPOB movement.
